provocation

I said, in my introduction to our current series at church on the parables, that I believe one of the primary ways that Jesus uses parables is to provoke thought & discussion.  Apparently I was right.I think I’ve heard more discussion this week about last week’s parable (The Parable of the Unjust Manager – Luke 16:1-13), than pretty much any other thing I’ve taught at our church in the last 2+ years!  In fact, in one of the house churches on Sunday – the one that had the “incident” (they know what I’m talking about) – they had an animated discussion about the ethics of Jesus!

I gotta say, nothing gets me more excited as a speaker than to know that what was said on Sunday morning is being talked about, argued about and thought through later in the week!  (And not because I was trying to be provocative, but because the text itself is thought provoking!)
