Jerry Seinfeld in Pe-or-i-a

Jennifer and I went to the 9:30 Jerry Seinfeld show last night in Peoria with friends.

In the words of my friend Kevin, “his delivery was a good as ever, but the material was weak, and dated.”  I agree.  I found myself repeatedly finishing his joke before he got to the punchline.  Of course, there was some good stuff, but overall, it was okay.

However, all four of us were pleasantly surprised by the opening act, Tom Papa.  A lot of the humor, at least for us, was that it was directed at our life stage – married w/ young children.

  1. My wife and I were at the show as well. My oldest daughter got us tickets for Christmas. I loved the show and they both made me laugh til I cried! But, you’re right, Tom Papa was as good, if not better. My wife will remind me of a bit from the show and then say, “Now, did Jerry say that or was that from the opening guy?” Most of the time, it was from Tom Papa, the “opening guy”.

As I sat there waiting for the show to begin, and there was nothing on that stage but a mic on a stand, I reflected on how much courage it takes to stand in front of an auditorium of people and say, “I think I can make them laugh!”
